The Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ National Committee has set out a number of guiding principles with respect for communications for the committee and related activities:
- Speak our truth in a gentle, safe, and sensitive way.
- Consensus through compromise and compassion towards each other is crucial.
- We feel heard when engaging with 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin.
- We come together with love, for the same reason, even if we do not always agree.
The Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ National Committee has identified a number of key actions with respect to communications, including:
- Use social media platforms such as TikTok and Facebook to create engaging content that encourages participation and thought-provoking discussions among young people.
- Create a website and other multimedia presences to share information and communications.
- Promote true and accurate information while highlighting and showcasing Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ stories and successes, as well as art, writing, business and leadership journeys in our communities and Nation.
- Use diverse forms of communication to reach Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ of all ages. Some older kin may prefer mailed communications, such as newsletters. The committee will explore the creation of a newsletter that may be shared electronically via email or social media, as well as in print.
- Create posters and place them in queer spaces across the provinces to attract more people and to disseminate information.
- Create resource lists and information about service organizations, and providers of essential services, such as healthcare, that are Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ friendly, competent, and safe. The creation of information resources and lists will be explored at the in-person gathering and disseminated through the virtual spaces and committee newsletters.
