Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin and survivors of gender-based and orientation-based violence need to have the resources to guide responses to Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ gender-based and orientation-based violence experiences. Alongside the federal government’s work to develop a 2SLGBTQQIA+ National Strategy, a Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ National Action Plan would identify Métis-specific gaps and barriers in services, Métis best practices to replicate as well as recommendations moving forward.
The Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ National Committee has committed to the development of the first Métis specific 2SLGBTQQIA+ National Action Plan to End Gender-based and Orientation-based Violence. The development of this plan will engage diverse Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin from across the Métis Nation in a face-to-face gathering. The action plan will be Métis specific and be created from a Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ lens. The intention of the National committee is to create a plan that is a living document which will inspire action, positive change, resurgence, and perseverance in the Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ community.
The National Action Plan will highlight and share research into the experiences of Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin related to gender-based and orientation-based violence. Guiding and overseeing this research is one of the priorities and objectives of the Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ National Committee. (Please refer to the research section below).
